Education Innovations with Big Implications
Oregon Tech
Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech), Oregon’s only public polytechnic university, provides a world-class education. With close to 50 career-ready degrees like engineering, healthcare, business, and environmental science, students can graduate into the workforce with a breadth of skills. Oregon Tech, using Oregon Lottery funds earmarked for college athletics, also offers a supportive, community-minded program for student athletes.
Rooted in Klamath
Located on the shores of Upper Klamath Lake, in the shadow of majestic Mount McLoughlin, the Oregon Tech campus provides picturesque views of the best of Oregon.
Oregon Tech was initially opened as a technical college and housed in repurposed military barracks. In the 1960s, the campus moved just a few miles up the hill to its current location. This short move helped the school become not only a permanent fixture in the community, but also a leader in sustainable energy use.
Student Athletics at Oregon Tech
Student athletes develop important life skills like determination and problem-solving. At Oregon Tech, they can also pursue career-ready degrees while they compete.
Oregon Lottery’s funding is important to Oregon Tech’s athletic pursuits. Student athletes have access to state-of-the-art facilities, as well as support from both the school and surrounding region thanks, in part, to Oregon Lottery funding.
In fact, Klamath Falls residents regularly pack the stands for athletic events and Oregon Tech athletes regularly conduct volunteer work in the community. Go, Owls!
Without the Lottery dollars, we would not exist in the way that we currently do….we would not be able to recruit, retain, and graduate student athletes that wouldn’t necessarily be able to come to university.— John Van Dyke, Athletic Director, Oregon Institute of Technology
In-Demand Careers
At Oregon Tech, degree programs range from cybersecurity to engineering. But the school also offers a number of degrees in the always-growing medical field.
With areas of study like sonography, dental hygiene, and vascular technology, Oregon Tech makes a lucrative, flexible career in the health care industry available to more Oregonians.
Students pursuing the highest levels of education can also find a home at Oregon Tech.
Katie Mull, a student athlete who holds the school record in hammer throw, cited affordability as a significant benefit and a factor in her decision to pursue Oregon Tech’s Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy.
A Breath of Fresh Air
Thanks to its scenic location in Klamath County, Oregon Institute of Technology is a beautiful place to work and study. With native flora, ample paths, and sweeping views, students enjoy access to the wonders that Oregon has to offer.
Oregon Tech isn’t just beautiful place for a stroll. For students looking to skip traffic, pass on parking, and do their part for the environment, cycling is a great choice. Travel Oregon even certified the Klamath Falls campus as a Bike Friendly Business!
Educational Opportunity Meets Economic Development
Oregon Tech was recently approved for a Business Oregon grant that was funded through Oregon Lottery revenue. The funds will help establish a new business innovation hub on the OIT campus.
